BOMB SQUAD Overview
Many factors must be taken into consideration to draw a Bomb Squad Team :
- the level of threat;
- The dedicated budget;
- The rules are different in each country;
- The number of people available;
- The level of training;
- The responsability in terms of mission of the bomb squad.
And also the effort the govermental authorities want to apply against the IED threat.
As a start we can say a team of 3 people can be the base of the unit.
This allows at least two guys in the field for an intervention under the protection of the Police or the Army.
We can multiply this team according to the territory to cover. By territory is must be understood from a small city up to a large country.
EOD/IEDD Training
It is assumed that Security Forces have some experience or understanding in core explosives disciplines and IEDD experience. If it is not so then they need the basic introduction to explosives and ammunition first before migrating to a basic IEDD capability.
To get fully up and running on IEDD quickly then a 6 weeks option is the starting point. It is good to have first a basic EOD course first so that they get a comprehensive grounding in EOD and explosives before they then do the IEDD course.
We can say level 1 would be EOD and level 2 would be basic IEDD
Level 3 could be an advanced IEDD, this could be 4-6 weeks long but may be too much to consider at this stage.
4 x week EOD ROV – Level 1
6 x week basic IEDD – Level 2
4 x week advance IEDD – Level 3
